If you are not using the joystick/game controller when playing, try hitting CTRL+J in the game or access the in game Options screen and select to disable the joystick/gamepad. Please download and install the latest driver available from the manufacturer for your controller device. If you are still experiencing a problem, and are playing the game using a game controller, make sure the controller is properly calibrated, as this issue can also be caused by an improperly calibrated joystick/game controller device. The game should then allow you to pick up the clock after a few minutes of bickering. Now talk to the skinny chess player and mention Brittany so he drops his chess piece too. You need to talk to the portly pirate chess player and make him drop his chess piece *first*, then talk to him about the other chess player and he will tell you that his opponent has a crush on Brittany. Try accessing a saved game which brings you to a point just before you initially encountered the chess playing pirates. I am experiencing problems in the chess game scene. You will then automatically give him the last item and float out of that screen. Respond correctly and he will open the gate for you. He will then ask you a question about what he is thinking. Open your inventory and give him two items in the same order they were given to you earlier. He will then ask you a question and you need to respond the same way the other Guybrush did before! Open your inventory and give him the key. When you meet Guybrush again, you are now the future self. Guybrush will then give you one more item and floats away. Now open your inventory and take out the key. Write down his answer for future reference. Now "Talk to Guybrush" and ask him a question about what you are thinking. Write down what they are and what order he gave them to you in. When you first meet up with Guybrush, float over to him and he will give you a key.
Also, press CTRL-J in-game to disable the controller. If you have a game controller (gamepad or joystick) connected to your system, please try disabling/disconnecting it from your system before entering the game to see if this helps.
When you are in the raft moving through the water, please avoid pressing the shift key while navigating the raft. After installing the 1.1 update, please load-up a saved game before this area (preferably before boarding the raft) and then advance again through the swamp and back up to this point of the game. We have seen this problem before and apologize for the inconvenience.
